About the Author
Dr. Pocahontas Schuck relocated to Colonial Beach VA in 2005, after retiring from 43 years of teaching science in northern Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and South Carolina.
She also had a second career as a part-time National Park Ranger from 1969-2014. She began her park service career during the summers of 1969 and 1970 in Glacier National Park in Montana. She was a pioneer in this field since this was primarily a position for men. During the summer of 1971 she was employed as the first female park ranger in Richmond Battlefield Park, VA. During the 1970s and 80s she moved up north and taught science in Montville, NJ, Norwalk, CT, and on the Northshore of Boston: Hamilton, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Amesbury, and Andover. Other park ranger positions found her working seasonally on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Falls, VA. Her positions with the Department of the Interior included the President’s Park (White House) from 1995-2014. In this position she also worked at Wolf Trap Farm Park, and on the National Mall at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and FDR Memorial. Being part of the Ranger Honor Guard she marched in many parades including the Clinton Second Inaugural. She spent her last seven years before retirement at George Washington Birthplace National Monument in Colonial Beach. The total of her years in government service was more than 25 years.
She has always loved to learn and now living the slow, solitude life of a small beach town, she gravitated toward getting more degrees. This time she decided to work on her Bachelor of Biblical Studies and then her Master of Divinity Degrees. After she finished these, she began the coursework for a Doctor of Theology degree. This degree led to a dissertation entitled God's Treasure Red Sea Crossing. This turned into her first book. As 2024 comes to a close, she has published her second book God's Treasure: Ark of the Covenant. The third and final book of the Trilogy, God’s Treasures Series is to be God's treasure: Noah's Ark during 2025 or 2026.
Family is very important to her. Her son and daughter are both married and have blessed her with four grandsons.
In addition to working on her degrees and writing two books, retirement finds her participating in an exercise group three times per week; trying her skills at the card game Sequence; playing Rummikub; working in her yard; serving in several capacities in her church including, but not limited to, Praise Team member and food bank coordinator; and caring for her beloved foster fur baby, JoJo, an English Bulldog. She is also very busy hosting guests in her Airbnb, Bayview Bungalow, which encompasses the entire first floor of her home overlooking Monroe Bay in Colonial Beach VA.
